Quantum Photonics Engineer
QuiX Quantum
Quantum Photonics Engineer
QuiX Quantum is at the forefront of the development of photonic quantum computing, a rapidly developing sector. Since our start in 2019, we have presented two world record-breaking quantum photonic processors.
The object of this role will be to spearhead the research and development for integrated single-photon generation, maintain and improve an 8-qubit special-purpose photonic quantum computer installation, carry out integrated and free-space quantum optics experiments, and interface with a diverse team of scientists and engineers.
- Carry out novel research and component development for single-photon generation using integrated optical components.
- Work with both quantum information and control systems experts to generate functional designs for integrated single-photon sources.
- System improvement and maintenance for an 8-qubit special-purpose photonic quantum computer.
- Design and carry out both integrated and free-space optical experiments including coincidence measurement, quantum dot characterization, Hong-Ou-Mandel (HOM) interference, and boson sampling.
- Test, measurement, and characterization of photonic devices, including setup build-up and data acquisition and analysis.
- Internal and EU-subsidized project ownership.
- Working in a multidisciplinary team with electrical engineers and quantum physicists.
- Interface with suppliers.
- Provide internal technical documentation on laboratory findings.
- Report results at conferences and internal meetings.
Bullet points for requirements/background –
- Preferably a Ph.D. in a relevant applied sciences field, focused on specifically an experimental approach to photonics or quantum optics.
- Must have hands-on experience with optical lab equipment, such as lasers, photodiode arrays, and free-space optics.
- Must have a strong knowledge base of chip-integrated photonic components (ring resonators, MZIs, beam splitters, waveguide coupling geometry).
- Must have a strong knowledge base of quantum optics topics (Spontaneous four-wave mixing (SFWM), Chi-3 process physics, coincidence, photon interference).
- Methodical and systematic approach to applied science.
- Proficiency in Python.
- Strong technical writing skills.
- Pro-active, accurate, and independent style of working.
- Proficiency in English language (verbal and written).
Exciting aspects –
- The technology we design, assemble, test, and scale up for production operates at the leading edge of quantum computer engineering.
- We work on challenging projects, solve high-tech problems, generate novel ideas in our field, and drive innovation for a quantum future.
- Everyone here has their own niche and specialty that they bring to the company, and together we form a dynamic and diverse team comprised of people from around the globe.
- This position specifically offers the chance to work directly with quantum computing setups in the laboratory, and a responsibility for investigating their performance, improving their design, assembling their components, and helping drive their development toward a universal system.
Employment conditions:
The position is full time. Your salary depends on both your education and experience. We have many educational opportunities, a generous number of vacation days and we offer a fully paid pension and attractive start up compensation. Equity plan participation available after the first year.
Are you as excited as we are to contribute to the fastest way to a quantum future? Do you want to be part of our journey to develop the world’s best quantum computer? Then join us!
